Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 16 October 2025
1. Overview
The Genuine Journal (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a browser extension that helps readers evaluate online news by analyzing articles for potential bias and credibility. We value your privacy and are committed to being transparent about how we handle data.
We do not collect personal information from users. Any data processed is limited strictly to the text of web articles analyzed to provide bias scores.
2. Information We Process
We do not collect or store:
Names, emails, or other personal identifiers
Browsing history or site activity
Cookies, analytics, or tracking data
When you use the extension:
The text of the news article currently open in your browser is temporarily processed by our backend server.
This text is sent securely to the OpenAI API to generate a bias and credibility assessment.
The article content is not stored or logged by us once the response is returned.
3. How We Use Processed Data
We process article text only to perform the core functionality of The Genuine Journal— providing bias and fact-check ratings.
We do not use the data for analytics, advertising, or AI model training.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share user data.
However, the following third-party services may temporarily process data to enable functionality:
OpenAI – for article analysis (via API request)
Vercel – for hosting the website, API, and static assets
These services may process temporary technical data (e.g., IP address, request metadata) required for normal operation.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Users are responsible for safeguarding their login credentials.
6. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
We do not use cookies, tracking scripts, or analytics tools.
7. Data Retention
We do not retain article data or user information after processing.
Requests are ephemeral and deleted immediately after the response is returned.
8. Children's Privacy
The Genuine Journal is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect or process data from minors.
9. Security
We use HTTPS and secure connections between your browser, our backend, and the OpenAI API.
While no system is completely secure, we take steps to minimize exposure by avoiding persistent data storage.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. The revised version will be posted on our website with an updated “Effective Date.”
